All About Our Lessons

Please read our policies before booking.

How are lessons taught?

Lessons are taught in small groups of 3–6. Children enrol on a term of lessons and each session is built around our three learning pillars: Discover and Play, Learn and Play and Sing and Play.

How much do they cost?

Our group lessons cost £100 per child per term. This covers all sessions within the term (session numbers may vary slightly depending on term dates), and each session lasts 45 minutes.

Our programmes offer a structured, supportive learning experience at a significantly lower cost than 1 to 1  lessons.

When and where do lessons take place?

Lessons currently take place on Saturday mornings at the Methodist Church on Pixmore Way, Letchworth (SG6 3TR). There is parking available and Letchworth town centre is a short walk away. Please do ensure you check on your confirmation email where lessons are being held!

Who are your lessons for?

We offer two lesson programmes for different experience levels - Introduction to Piano and Level Up Piano.

Introduction to Piano is suitable for absolute beginners, age 6 - 10 - no prior knowledge of piano or keyboard required. This course introduces students to the musical alphabet, foundational theory components, and four power chords. By the end of the course, we strive for students to play simple songs - including a tune with both hands - understand the basics of composition and accompany themselves while singing.

Level Up Piano is for children with some piano or keyboard experience, or who have completed at least one term of our beginner course, age 6- 10. This course will introduce some more advanced theory elements, more chords and two-handed playing, as well as some improvisation.

We are developing more opportunities and options for learning for 2026.

How do I know which one to choose?

If your child is an absolute beginner, then Introduction to Piano is the one for them. For Level Up Piano, we ask that children are comfortable with the music alphabet (A-G), can play C-G with their right hand and C-F with their left hand whilst their thumb is on middle C, have some knowledge of note lengths (crotchets and quavers) and familiarity with a stave. Reading notation is not a prerequisite.

If you're still not sure, please do reach out on info@vivapiano.co.uk and we can arrange to have a chat about what's best for your little one. If your child has completed a term of Introductory lessons, we can advise on whether we think they are ready for Level Up or would benefit from more beginner lessons!

Whichever programme you land on, we do ask that your child has expressed a real interest in music. Our number one priority is that they enjoy their lessons!

When do the next round of lessons start?

Our Winter term is now underway! You can pop your name on the waiting list for the Spring term here.

What will children learn on?

Children will be taught on 61-key keyboards and each child will be provided with their own keyboard during the lesson.

Who teaches the lessons?

Lessons are taught by Viva Piano founders, Laura and Scarlett. Read more about us here or get in touch at info@vivapiano.co.uk - we will be more than happy to have a chat.

Will parents/guardians be involved?

Parents/guardians are required to stay for each lesson, and seating is provided in the lesson room.  â€‹â€‹

Does using a keyboard rather than a piano impact learning?

We don't believe so. You can read our thoughts in more detail in this blog post.

What about first aid & safeguarding?

Both Laura and Scarlett are trained in paediatric first aid,  have received the appropriate level of safeguarding training, and have basic DBS checks.
